The streets of Fort Sanders in Knoxville are set for a deep cleansing operation, termed the Fort Sanders Summer Roundup, scheduled over two weekends in July. The event, a regular summer occurrence, aims to refresh street markings, replace signs where necessary, and expunge trash and brush from the neighborhood's roads. WBIR reports cleanup will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 13-14 and July 27-28, coinciding with the summer break to minimize disruption while most University of Tennessee students are away.

To facilitate a thorough cleaning, residents are being reminded to relocate their cars ahead of time. Failure to do so will result in towing to clear the way for city crews. About 250 temporary no-parking signs will guide residents on when and where to move their vehicles, WVLT noted. In a statement obtained by WVLT, City Parking Manager Mark Elliott expressed his gratitude saying, "The Fort always looks its best after the Summer Roundup, and we thank and appreciate the help and patience of the Fort Sanders residents who make this possible."

The cleaning initiative is not expected to significantly disrupt traffic, although short-term road closures may be enacted as necessary for safety, as city officials have announced. During the operation, crews will also weed the public rights-of-way, contributing to the overall upkeep of the neighborhood. To ensure residents are well-informed, flyers will be distributed on windshields and throughout Fort Sanders in the lead-up to the cleaning periods, according to WATE's report.

Specific streets targeted for cleaning include Grand Avenue, Forest Avenue, and Highland Avenue, among others, with the cleanup divided between the eastern and western ends of Fort Sanders on alternating weekends. Residents can find the complete list of affected streets, and, the appropriate cleanup days on local news outlets and city announcements. "These two weekends are our best opportunities to refresh street markings and remove brush and litter. It’s imperative that owners move their vehicles to avoid being towed," Elliott told WATE in their coverage of the event.
