On Wednesday, firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) were dispatched to a grass fire in Sepulveda Basin. According to official reports by the department, the incident, logged as INC#0779, started at around 11:47 AM at 15700 W Burbank Bl. Upon arrival, fire crews were met with a two-acre blaze that threatened the surrounding area.
The LAFD's prompt response involved multiple crews and specialized equipment. An update on the situation provided by the department revealed that the fire grew to cover a total of three acres. " It took 34 firefighters just over an hour to extinguish the three-acre grass fire using hand tools, hose lines, LAFD Dozers, and water tender," stated the follow-up account published on LAFD's alert page. Significantly, no injuries were reported in the containment of the fire.
The crews responsible for containing the fire drew from a spectrum of firefighting resources. Fire Station 88, Battalion 10, and several other units including helitack teams were part of the coordinated effort. The LAFD’s Dozers played an integral role in controlling and eventually extinguishing the flames, preventing the spread to adjacent areas that are frequented by local residents and wildlife.
While the immediate danger is no longer present, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
