A tragic incident unfolded on La Cienega Boulevard when a female pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run collision; the Los Angeles Police Department now seeks public assistance to find the responsible party. In the early morning of Tuesday, July 23, authorities reported that an unidentified vehicle hit the woman as she was crossing near Obama Boulevard and then fled the scene without complying with legal obligations to aid the victim.
The incident, which occurred around 1:50 a.m., left the woman with fatal injuries, and despite the efforts of the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics who rushed to the scene, she was pronounced dead, the public has been reminded that when involved in a traffic incident to stop and call for help, details regarding the suspect vehicle or the identity of the driver, however, remain elusive. The victim's name has yet to be released, pending notification of her family.
The City Council's 2015 amendment to the Los Angeles Administrative Code established a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund, offering up to $50,000 for information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of hit-and-run offenders or a civil resolution.
Officers from the South Traffic Division, including Officer Kim (serial No. 40105), are leading the inquiry, and the department appeals to anyone with knowledge of the accident to step forward and make contact, especially after hours when calls should be directed to the dedicated 24/7 LAPD line, these types of tragedies remind us of the fragility of life and the importance of community vigilance. Tipsters with relevant information but wishing to remain unidentified can call L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers or use the “P3 Tips” mobile app to submit a tip discreetly.
