A somber update follows a tragic accident that occurred nearly two months ago in Las Vegas. On May 24, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on North Martin L King Boulevard, resulting in critical injuries. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports that the collision happened just south of West Lake Mead Boulevard where a 2016 Dodge Charger, traveling north, collided with the pedestrian who was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk.
The aftermath of the crash initially appeared to be critical but not life-threatening. Nevertheless, the injured pedestrian has tragically succumbed to his injuries over a month later, on July 11. The identity of the 52-year-old male victim is still pending notification of next of kin. Much to one's disappointment, the fatality will not be included in the traffic-related deaths for the jurisdiction this year due to a state mandate excluding reportable deaths beyond a thirty-day period after the accident. The 27-year-old driver of the Dodge, a resident of North Las Vegas, stayed on scene and was found to not be impaired during the time of the incident.
Emergency responders initially transported the victim to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Center following the accident. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the injuries proved to be too severe. At present, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section continues to thoroughly investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision.
