Following the recent trail of a hit-and-run incident that ended tragically on East Harmon Avenue, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) apprehended the driver implicated in the crash, providing a measure of closure to a case that shook the local community.
The hit-and-run, which took its toll in human life—a 62-year-old pedestrian—occurred in the early hours of July 21 and has since been a focal point of investigation and subsequent arrest, and although the individual involved has expired, the actions thereafter by the LVMPD have shown a commitment to justice, even as the deceased pedestrian's name is pending notification his presence, his story has been marred by a collision a fleeting moment that ended a journey we know too little about..
According to the original press release by the LVMPD, the event transpired when the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street—outside of any recognized crosswalk—a misstep that placed him in the dire path of an SUV, an event that culminates in grievous injury and death, steered by hands now accounted for and charged.
The arresting of the driver, identified as Rigoberto Osorio, aged 48, of Las Vegas, confronts but cannot contain the wider truth of this human drama—the 87th of such fatalities on LVMPD's beat this year alone—and brings into focus the consequences of actions and inactions: a scene marked by absence the driver who, after the incident, fled, thereby embedding in the asphalt of East Harmon Avenue a narrative of loss and evasion, Francia Carral, 47, also of Las Vegas, was listed as the vehicle's passenger and she, like Osorio, escaped physical injuries.
Lives intertwine and unravel on the thoroughfares where we seek to press forward, yet the LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section continues its diligent probing, hinting at yet more to understand in the wake of what's been lost. The authorities invite anyone with more information to step forward and add their voice to the ongoing investigation through various channels provided, including a call to the LVMPD at (702) 828-3535 or anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers.
