Following a public appeal for assistance, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has successfully apprehended a suspect linked to a series of troubling incidents involving sexual battery against two female juveniles. The arrest was made on July 19, culminating a search that began after the reported crimes took place on July 18. The suspect, 21-year-old George Marquez, who is currently experiencing homelessness, is now facing serious charges including attempted rape and penetration with a foreign object, according to an LBPD press release.

After responding to the initial reports, law enforcement was able to identify and book Marquez, whose bail was set at $242,000. Officials particularly noted Marquez for having two outstanding warrants for terrorist threats causing fear and battery. Having tattoos on his forearms, the suspect matched the description previously shared with the public to aid in his capture.

The initial report detailed two separate incidents occurring within an hour of each other on the morning of July 18th. The first victim described an encounter with Marquez on a bus near Carson Street and Atlantic Avenue. After a brief conversation, both disembarked, and Marquez sexually assaulted the victim. In a promptly following scenario, another victim was targeted on a bus near Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue, where the same sequence of events unfolded, leading to the assault.

LBPD has emphasized the continuation of their investigation, urging anyone with more information to come forward. Detective William Neal of the Sex Crimes Detail can be contacted at (562) 570-7368. Tips, which can be provided anonymously, are being accepted through "LA Crime Stoppers" and the "P3 TIPS" smartphone app or its website. The LBPD extends their thanks to those individuals whose contributions helped to facilitate the swift apprehension of Marquez.
