Firefighters in the Florence neighborhood battled a significant blaze yesterday that engulfed a one-story commercial building and a large storage yard. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the incident, labeled as INC#0917, was reported at 12:38 PM at 809 E 73rd St. The firefighters were in defensive mode as they arrived to find heavy fire showing.

The fire's intensity didn't take long to cause problems for the surrounding areas. With flames that were fed by the materials in the storage yard, surrounded by concrete walls and partially covered by overhead roofing, the heat managed to penetrate an adjacent vacant commercial building. Fighting this blaze required both skill and strategy, with firefighters applying heavy water streams from the perimeter per a statement obtained by LAFD.

The effort to control and extinguish the fire was successful, with the LAFD reporting a "knockdown" of the fire at 01:01 PM. According to an update on the LAFD website, it took a team of 49 firefighters just 23 minutes to put out the flames once they made interior access to the affected structures.

The fire response teams, consisting of various units including E10, E21, and E33, navigated through the thick smoke and intense temperatures to reach and subdue the fire. As reported by the LAFD, the crews made their way inside the structure, battling back the encroaching flames from inside. The quick and coordinated response of these teams likely prevented further damage or potential spread to other nearby structures.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Council District 9 and the South Bureau were among the LAFD divisions responding to the incident, with additional support from multiple emergency personnel units.
