
A three-story vacant home in the Harvard Heights neighborhood became the scene of a fire on Tuesday afternoon with flames visible upon the arrival of the Los Angeles Fire Department. According to a statement from the LAFD, the incident occurred at 1422 S St Andrews Pl at approximately 6:47 PM.
Fire crews took an offensive stance against, the blaze which emanated from a craftsman-style house that appeared to be vacant. The LAFD dispatched numerous resources including ladder trucks and hose lines to tackle the fire. As detailed in a follow-up notification by the department, it took 55 firefighters about 36 minutes to control and ultimately extinguish the fire. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
The operation included firefighters climbing ladders to provide vertical ventilation on the roof while others established interior attack lines to suppress the fire. The coordination of multiple engine companies and specialized teams was crucial in managing to confine the flames to the initial structure, preventing further spread to adjacent properties.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, no further details regarding the origin or circumstances leading up to the incident have been released as of yet. The absence of reported injuries is a relief; however, the impact on the structure and the cost of damage are yet to be determined. The swift response of the LAFD, and comprehensive knockdown strategies, were instrumental in tackling this event effectively.
