Seattle's Lowman Beach Park has been celebrated with the distinguished title of Best Restored Shore by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA), as reported by Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) and its project collaborators. This commendation is a tribute to a restoration effort that saw the reviving of a crucial coastal habitat and recreational space in West Seattle at 7017 Beach Dr. SW, as per the Seattle Parks and Recreation.
The restoration commenced shortly after the 1990s when the park's seawall suffered a partial failure, and the recently concluded endeavor has now made it possible to once more freely access the beachfront. The project, as detailed by Seattle Parks and Recreation, spanned the removal of the seawall's remnants and the revitalization of a 7,000-square-foot shoreline. This deft combination of planning and execution has to not only restore but to enhance the connection between land and water.
SPR Superintendent AP Diaz expressed the organization's ethos in a statement: “Supporting a thriving environment is one of Seattle Parks and Recreation core values." Diaz further expressed his gratitude by saying, "We are honored to receive this national award for our work to improve this shoreline park for the habitat and people of Seattle.”
