A Macomb County man has been convicted of first-degree child abuse for injuries sustained by his 11-week-old son in 2020. Adam Doe, 36, was found guilty by a jury last Friday, marking the resolution of a case that has lingered in the courts for nearly four years. The conviction came after a three-week trial, and sentencing is scheduled for September 18th, as cited by Macomb County, Michigan.
Doe, from Harrison Township, is currently being held in Macomb County jail, based on jail records. In a separate case, Doe faced charges of witness intimidation and domestic violence but was acquitted. The abuse incident happened on February 22, when, according to the police report, after returning from the store, woke up the mother, claiming something was wrong with her child, as stated by Dawn Fraylick, the communication director for the prosecutor's office.
The boy sustained multiple severe brain injuries and fractures, with the injuries indicative of abuse. The mother, purportedly sick and having fallen asleep after feeding the infant, awoke to find her child in distress. The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office has pledged its commitment to justice, emphasizing the grave nature of the offense.
In the wake of the conviction, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido expressed compassion for the suffering endured by the victim and his family, saying, as per Macomb County, Michigan, "Our hearts go out to the young victim and his family, who have endured unimaginable pain and suffering. This conviction brings some measure of justice for the severe injuries inflicted upon this innocent child." He hopes this verdict, as found in court records, provides closure and reassurance of accountability within society.
