East Bexar County faced significant delays on Friday when an Amazon 18-wheeler was involved in a major crash, shutting down all westbound lanes of Interstate 10 at Zuehl Road, near the Bexar and Guadalupe county line. As reported by KSAT, the closure started around 6 a.m., with traffic backed up to Santa Clara Road, east of Cibolo Creek. The details of the crash, including the cause and whether there were any injuries, remain unknown.
According to the Saint Hedwig Marshal's Office, the road was expected to be closed for several hours while crews worked on clearing the scene. The Texas Department of Transportation confirmed that traffic was being redirected to the frontage roads, and drivers could re-enter I-10 at Haeckerville Road. A traffic monitoring site, SigAlert, indicated that traffic was practically at a standstill, with speeds as low as 1 mph and delays of up to 30 minutes. SigAlert also reported that there are no TxDOT traffic cameras in the area to provide visual updates but noted the involvement of the Amazon vehicle in the incident.
Aside from the I-10 closure, drivers on the west side of San Antonio encountered another disruption due to a crash on Highway 90 near Cupples Road. Reported approximately at 6 a.m., the second incident blocked at least one main lane on the westbound lanes of Highway 90, creating additional traffic backlog reported by MySA. Drivers experienced slow movement at around 13 mph, with congestion stretching back to General Hudnell Drive.
While the Bexar County Sheriff's Office had not provided further details on the I-10 incident, officials urged drivers to avoid the area if possible. As crews continue the clean-up, and investigations are underway to determine the specifics of the crash, authorities have not advised on an estimated time for the reopening of the interstate.
