On a day that is supposed to celebrate the nation's independence and symbolize unity, the town of South Greensburg faced an incident that starkly contrasted these ideals. Michael Gravely, a 36-year-old man, has been charged with ethnic intimidation, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, and endangering the welfare of a child after a road rage episode on June 20. According to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, the victim experienced racial slurs from Gravely after an encounter on Route 119 near Huff Avenue – an aggression that escalated when Gravely exited his vehicle and shattered the victim’s driver-side window, as reported by WTAE.

Gravely was identified by South Greensburg Police following a social media post seeking assistance in finding the suspect involved in a road rage situation. The altercation began when the victim, Delorian Day, was driving along Route 119 and passed Gravely's vehicle. This seemingly triggered a dangerous response from Gravely, who began to tailgate Day and later threatened to kill him while hurling xenophobic demands for him to return to his country.

In addition to verbal assaults, physical damage was inflicted upon Day's truck, with estimates amounting to about $2,600, as detailed by CBS News. Gravely not only caused considerable financial harm but also jeopardized his child’s safety by leaving a one-month-old baby unattended in his car during the frontline of his outrage.

When faced with the allegations, Gravely denied the use of racial slurs or making threats in his interview with the police, but admitted to damaging the victim's vehicle. The denial "Not that I'm aware of", was Gravely's response to the accusations of using racial language, as cited by a WPXI. The case is slated for court in July, with Gravely released on a $7500 unsecured bond, as per WTAE.
