A 23-year-old man, Jacob M. Posey, has been charged in connection with a tragic crash on Interstate 70 that occurred in March, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Tori L. Demo. Posey was allegedly traveling at a speed of 118 mph, more than double the posted speed limit, when the accident took place between the Route 51 and Arnold City interchanges, as reported by WTAE.
The crash involved Posey's pickup rapidly approaching Demo's vehicle from behind, and as Demo moved into the right lane to make way, Posey attempted to pass using the same lane, leading to the collision. Despite efforts from witnesses at the scene trying to rescue Demo from her car, it burst into flames before she could be extricated, injuries from which she did not survive, Posey now faces several charges among them the charge of vehicular homicide. Data retrieved from Posey's truck indicated the high speed at which he was operating the vehicle a mere moments before the crash, court documents disclosed.
Kayla Demo, the victim's sister, expressed the family's grief and frustration, articulating that the charges brought against Posey would not bring back her sister or provide peace. She characterized her current emotional state as a "new normal," as reported by WPXI, underscoring the permanent impact of the loss on her family's life.
One witness recalled Posey's truck emitting black smoke as it accelerated to high speeds, navigating a curve while the speedometer surged to the perilous mark of 100 mph, another witness described the moment when Posey tried to overtake Demo's car, resulting in her vehicle hitting the guard rail, flipping multiple times, and finally catching fire. The victim's sister voiced her disbelief over the extremity of Posey's speed during the typical morning hours, stating, "Like, are we serious? That speed limit's only like 55," underscoring the recklessness implicated in the act. Currently released on bond, Posey's freedom before his preliminary hearing on July 29 distresses the Demo family, as detailed by WPXI.
