Seattle's Mount Baker neighborhood became the latest backdrop for the city's ongoing struggle with gun violence when a 29-year-old man was shot late Monday evening. The Seattle Police Department reports indicate a surge in emergency response just minutes before the clock struck midnight, as officers and medical personnel rushed to the 3000 block of South Mount Baker Boulevard following a 911 call, providing lifesaving efforts to the victim found with an abdominal gunshot wound.
The Seattle Fire Department transported the man to Harborview Medical Center, described as serious but stable. The urgency of the gunshot echoed through the somber night and into the corridors where white coats and beeping machines became his immediate fate. SPD officers meanwhile cordoned off the vicinity, meticulously collecting what evidence they could to piece together the precipitating events. According to the Seattle Police Department, the exact location of the shooting within the neighborhood has yet to be determined.
With no suspects in custody and details scarce, the Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives have taken the helm of the investigation, trying to construct a timeline and motive that led to the shooting.
