Firefighters on the Hawaiian island of Maui are diligently working to fully extinguish a brush fire that has engulfed parts of West Maui. As of the latest reports, the blaze has been 75% contained. The fire, which ignited around 11 a.m. Tuesday near Ukumehame, has burned approximately 10 acres of land thus far, Hawaii News Now reported.

The efforts to control the flames include conducting water drops and creating breaks in the vegetation to halt the fire's progression. According to updates from local officials, no evacuations or injuries have occurred in relation to the incident, and a crew from the Maui Fire Department (MFD) remained on the scene throughout the night to monitor the situation.

An earlier miscommunication reported by the Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) had pointed to a location in Olowalu, however, corrected information from the MFD has focused efforts on the Ukumehame brushfire. According to KITV, as the situation stands, there have been no road closures, and residents have been advised to steer clear of the area.

The cause of the fire is currently under an investigation. While the immediate threat appears to be contained with 75% of the fire under control, local authorities are urging residents and visitors to be prepared for any potential evacuation should the situation escalate. The community is awaiting further updates as firefighting crews continue their work to bring the West Maui brush fire to a full resolution.
