
Financial acumen and strategic foresight have rightfully earned Mecklenburg County’s CFO David Boyd the title of 2024 Chief Financial Officer of the Year for a Civic/Government Organization, an accolade bestowed by the Charlotte Business Journal at their annual CFO of the Year Awards ceremony held last Thursday, Mecklenburg County's reported the publication.
Demonstrating steadfast oversight over Mecklenburg County's comprehensive financial mechanisms, Boyd is responsible for a breadth of key functions financial reporting, investing and debt management, procurement, grant administration, and more, while simultaneously providing leadership that propels the county forward in finding innovative financial solutions for sustained development and minimizing the strain placed on taxpayers.
Boyd’s notable contributions include shaking up the standard for capital planning with a dynamic financial model, crafting a multi-billion dollar Capital Improvement Plan, effectively managing the County's substantial budget, driving the largest local bond passage in North Carolina's history, reinforcing financial transparency, and optimizing a considerable investment portfolio.
Commendations come from within Mecklenburg County's government itself, wherein Michael A. Bryant, deputy County manager, expressed high praise for Boyd's accomplishments saying, "David’s exceptional achievements and unwavering commitment to financial excellence make him a deserving winner of the CFO of the Year Award", according to the statement obtained by the Charlotte Business Journal; Boyd is hailed not only as a strategic thinker but also as a mentor, tipping his hat to the broader influence of his tenure since August 2021—and echoing the sentiments of those who gain from his enduring breadth of industry experience which spans more than a quarter of a century.
Apart from his current role, Boyd has stints in the private sector and maintains active involvement in several trade bodies pertinent to government finance and public accounting, further showcasing his dedication to the field of fiscal governance and his commitment to sharing knowledge across various professional platforms.
