The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) has been working overtime not only to ensure the safety of citizens but also to maintain law and order during the Fourth of July festivities. Taking to their social media, MPD announced that starting from the previous night, additional patrols were out establishing their presence in the community. The aim clearly is to curb any incidents before they escalate into larger disruptions for the city.
During these increased patrols, MPD stated that they made several arrests, towed cars, and seized a significant amount of illegal fireworks. These efforts were particularly notable as they came from a need to proactively ensure that the celebrations did not turn sour due to unlawful activities. In the midst of these operations, Chief Brian O'Hara made a discovery inside a stolen Hyundai—two BB guns accompanied by a cache of the aforementioned fireworks. It was while diligently checking this array of contraband that he paused to greet Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher, who was aiding the patrolling efforts in Dinkytown.
The partnership among law enforcement was highlighted as key in facilitating a safe environment. MPD took the opportunity to extend their gratitude to other agencies, including the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, State Patrol, University of Minnesota Police, and the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office.
