
A tragic motor vehicle crash in the North Division of Charlotte-Mecklenburg resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider, as first reported by local authorities. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit is leading the in-depth probe into the incident, which involved a collision between a 2020 Honda CR-V and a 2011 Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle. The crash occurred on Monday, July 22, shortly before 9 p.m. on the 8100 block of W. W.T. Harris Boulevard, where the Honda was making a left turn onto the ramp to I-485.
First responders to the scene, including North Division officers, detected heavily damaged vehicles and promptly enlisted the aid of the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC, who transported 21-year-old motorcycle operator, Bryan Alexander Gonzalez Barreras to a local hospital; there, he was proclaimed dead, speed is believed to be a main contributing factor for Mr. Barreras who, although wearing a NCDOT-approved helmet, did not have it secured properly during the time of the crash. The driver of the Honda, identified as 39-year-old Mr. Abhishek Dubey and two passengers, escaped the ordeal without sustaining injuries.
