Long Beach had a turbulent night on July 27, that carried into the early hours of the next morning, with the Long Beach Police Department reporting multiple incidents involving gun violence and an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the LBPD blotter.
A hit shooting occurred at the intersection of Alamitos Avenue and 5th Street around 9:50 p.m., where officers stumbled upon a male adult suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The man received first aid from the officers before being transported to a local hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department, listed in stable condition. Meanwhile, discovered at the Junipero Lot where the incident took place, a second victim made his way to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower body. He also is reported in stable condition. The LBPD blotter shared that casings were found at the scene, though "the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time."
Earlier in the evening, at around 9:28 p.m., another violent encounter took place, this time resulting in a stabbing on the 200 block of W. Broadway. Upon their arrival, officers found a male adult victim with stab wounds to the upper body, inflicted during what seemed to be an escalation of a verbal dispute with a male suspect. The Long Beach Fire Department personnel were quick to respond, transporting the stabbed victim to the hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect had fled on foot by the time authorities arrived, as noted in the LBPD blotter.
Both cases remain open as LBPD detectives are continuing their pursuit of the perpetrators behind these incidents. Anyone with information about either crime is encouraged to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigations.
