The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has made it known that construction crews will be working into the night on Interstate 476 come next week. This is due to ongoing projects aimed at enhancing both the travel experience and safety on the interstate that stretches through Delaware and Montgomery counties. Drivers should be ready for a series of nighttime travel restrictions set to kick off Monday, July 15.
According to PennDOT's announcement, for those navigating southbound on I-476, expect lane closures between the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) and I-95 interchanges from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM beginning Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19. This is for the purpose of paving. Furthermore, the same stretch of nights will see lane closures on the northbound lanes between the Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and I-76 interchanges, where crews will be busy with guiderail replacement.
The latter part of the week throws in additional overnight constriction, with lane closures slated for sections of southbound I-95, and both directions of I-476 at various interchanges to facilitate stormwater management activities. These are scheduled for Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, running from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.
Daytime traffic won’t be spared, as a lane closure with flagging is set for Baltimore Pike between Turner Road and Paper Mill Road from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This will take place Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, in Nether Providence and Springfield townships, Delaware County. Crews will be focusing their efforts on bridge repair during these hours. With these multitude of activities, PennDOT urges motorists to stay vigilant and allow for extra time while traveling through the affected areas.
