Yesterday at approximately 11 a.m., firefighters from Rural Metro Fire were dispatched to combat a significant blaze at a structure in North Knox County. The site, located in the 9300 block of Pedigo Road, presented immediate obstacles as first responders found one end of a "huge structure fully engulfed with flames" upon their arrival. The structure, a considerable distance from the roadway, required firefighters to navigate the challenge of extending their water supply 900 feet to effectively fight the inferno, as posted on Facebook by Rural Metro Fire - Knox County.
As crews battled the fire, they also contended with the day's intense heat and humidity, conditions that necessitated calling a third team of firefighters to assist. Despite the blaze's ferocity and logistical complications, no injuries were reported among the 10 family members who resided at the affected property, or amongst the firefighters themselves. "We are extremely thankful to our fire service friends from Anderson County and Knoxville who provided critical assistance to our firefighters in this extreme heat," said Rural Metro in a statement covered by WVLT. Neighbors also lent their support, providing water and other assistance.
The expansive structure that caught fire bore a resemblance to an Old Western style town, as depicted in photographs from the scene shared by WATE. Several units of the building were heavily damaged. While the prompt evacuation of the premises ensured safety for those inside, the American Red Cross stepped in to assist the displaced families as they faced the sudden upheaval caused by the blaze.
Investigations into the fire's origins are currently underway, with no determinations made public at the time of reporting.
