A house fire in the East Little York / Homestead area caused significant damage to a single-story home earlier this week. As reported by the City of Houston, the blaze occurred on the 10400 block of Bainbridge Street at approximately 7:07 p.m. on Friday. While no injuries have been disclosed, the fire resulted in an estimated $175,000 in damages.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with an active fire with smoke billowing out from the side of the house. They worked to quickly reset the fire and began extinguishing the flames that had engulfed the interior. A primary search of the premises was conducted to ensure no individuals were inside, and efforts were made to ventilate the roof. Crews from Stations 15, 34, 45, 32, 43, and 56 responded, with a total of 31 personnel on the scene, according to a statement obtained by the City of Houston's official communication.
The cause of the fire was cited as unintentional, with a mechanical failure or malfunction outlined as the likely trigger. Initial observations suggest the origin was near a generator, barbecue pit, and additional household items, from which point the fire is believed to have spread to the exterior wall and into the home's structure. Specific details addressing the scope of the property saved from the inferno were not available at the time of reporting.
"Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke and fire coming from the side of a 1-story house," the City of Houston reported. Investigations continue to fully ascertain the sequence of events that led to the fire, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.
