A carjacking incident took a dramatic turn in North Hollywood on Monday evening when a suspect in a stolen truck towing a coffee trailer led police on a chase that ended in a crash. The pursuit began after the truck, which was hauling a "Matt's Coffee" trailer, was reportedly carjacked in Ventura County. ABC7 reported that the chase ensued when the vehicle was spotted in the Foothill Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Liam Yanez, navigated the stolen vehicle at high speeds across city streets. According to ABC7, Yanez lost control of the truck while taking a hard right onto Tujunga Avenue from Chandler Boulevard. This maneuver sent the coffee trailer toppling over, finally coming to rest on the sidewalk. Yanez fled on foot but was apprehended after taking refuge in a porta-potty.
Approaching Tujunga Avenue and Chandler Boulevard, the pursuit reached a crescendo as the driver's hasty maneuver caused the trailer to roll and the truck to come to a spinning halt. "He jumped from a storage container and onto a roof before falling into another parking lot," quoted in a statement obtained by CBS Los Angeles.
The L.A.P.D. responded by setting up a perimeter in the search for the suspect. It was close to 10:30 p.m. when law enforcement officers located Yanez, as per KTLA.
As detailed by ABC7, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Yanez is now facing multiple charges, including carjacking, and his bail has been set at $130,000.
