The Metropolitan Police Department detailed the arrest of 29-year-old Marcus Hunter, also from Northeast, saying he was charged with Robbery (Force and Violence) following an incident where a victim was assaulted and robbed.
Officials report that the altercation occurred in the early hours of June 24, in the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast. The assailants allegedly approached the victim around 12:13 a.m., assaulted them, and proceeded to forcibly take their property before fleeing. Hunter was arrested nearly a month later, on July 24, as a suspect in this case. According to the Metropolitan Police Department's statement, "pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 29-year-old Marcus Hunter, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged."
The circumstances leading up to the identification and subsequent arrest of Hunter have not been publicly disclosed by authorities. The Metropolitan Police Department has not indicated whether there were any other suspects involved in the robbery or if Hunter is believed to have acted alone in this violent incident.
As of the date of the arrest, Hunter awaits trial where he will have to face the charges brought against him. Details about the victim's condition or the nature of the stolen property have not been released to the public. The incident underscores the ongoing concerns of violent crime in the area, which community leaders and law enforcement are struggling to effectively tackle.
