Novato Police have taken a man into custody following reports of suspicious behavior near a local school, according to a community alert. Last Friday afternoon, authorities responded to concerns about a man with two bicycles peering into vehicles at Olive School. The individual, who later became confrontational, was identified as 25-year-old Rudy Ipina Guerra of Novato.
Officers approached Guerra near the school's baseball field. Although no students were on campus at the time, school staff were present. Guerra, seemingly agitated and believed to be under the influence, refused to provide his identification. He was subsequently found to have checks not in his name, burglary tools, and a knife. A bike recognized by officers as stolen earlier that day was also in his possession. Novato Police reported no injuries resulting from the encounter.
The prompt intervention by police led to Guerra's booking into Marin County Jail on charges including possession of burglary tools, a weapon, and stolen property. At this time, additional outstanding warrants for his arrest were discovered. The stolen bike was returned to its rightful owner, closing the loop on at least one of the crimes resolved by the day's efforts.
