A tragic two-car collision on Kaukonahua Road in Waialua on Sunday led to the loss of life for one individual and left two others injured, sources report. According to KITV, the incident prompted the closure of the stretch of road between Kaamooloa Road and Kiekonea Way as first responders addressed the aftermath.
The Honolulu Fire Department arrived on the scene just before 5 p.m. to find two individuals trapped within their vehicles, with one person having already succumbed to fatal injuries, the site of the accident used hydraulic rescue tools enabled the extraction of the surviving victims. The Honolulu Police and Emergency Medical Services were also present, collaborating in response to the emergency presented by the collision.
The deceased was an adult male, estimated to be in his 20s to 30s; alongside him was another male of a similar age range, found in critical condition, and a female, estimated to be 41, who sustained serious injuries, detailed by the Star-Advertiser. The male was urgently transported to a trauma facility, whereas the injured woman received prompt medical attention for neck, back, and lower extremity injuries.
The complex rescue operations were supported by four HFD units, comprising a 14-member team, their arrival at the scene was reported at 4:42 p.m., the first responders worked meticulously to stabilize the vehicles and facilitate the safe removal of the occupants before handing over to EMS at 4:57 p.m., this operation underscores the critical role of emergency services in times of acute crisis, reaffirming their preparedness and swift action in the face of unforeseeable events that endanger lives in our communities.
