The Oakland Police Department's Alcohol Beverage Action Team (ABAT) and Support Operations Division (SOD), among other agencies, recently converged on a Willow Street tobacco and liquor store following several community complaints. The joint inspection resulted in a cache of contraband. According to the Oakland Police Department, the bust yielded prohibited flavored tobacco products, untaxed out-of-state tobacco, a controlled substance stash, and even a loaded firearm.
The enforcement action, executed on Tuesday at around 9:00 a.m., involved multiple law enforcement agencies. The store, located in the 700 block of Willow Street, yielded a loaded firearm and significant quantities of illegal tobacco. Although no arrests have been made, the findings will be sent to the Alameda County District Attorney’s office for review and potential charges.
Despite the seizure, no suspects were detained at the scene. Officials from the Oakland Police Department (OPD) stated, "The case will be forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney’s office for further action, including civil charges and potential eviction." This approach is part of the department’s broader strategy to hold store owners accountable by educating them about the consequences of selling illegal tobacco, particularly to individuals under 21.
