The Orlando Police Department, bolstered by support from community service officers, has initiated strict enforcement against prohibited parking at Orlando International Airport. This enforcement surge commenced outside of regular patrol hours beginning June 6, targeting zones such as Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, State Road 528, and the entry to Terminal C where parking is forbidden, as reported by ClickOrlando.
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority noted that as of their latest tally, officers have rerouted 1,619 vehicles from no-parking areas in June and an additional 420 so far in July and they are affirming their commitment to safety and order at the aviation hub, Kevin J. Thibault, CEO of the GOAA, stating "We understand that parking can be a challenge during peak travel periods, but parking on shoulders is never an acceptable solution," as detailed by ClickOrlando. Drivers are being encouraged, to plan their trips with forethought and to utilize designated areas for temporary stops, like the airport's complimentary cell phone parking lot when picking up arriving passengers.
On-the-ground observations indicated the persistent issue of drivers ignoring signs and parking along the shoulder, particularly near Terminal C. These surveillances help reinforce the real-world implications of the reported numbers and provide a glimpse into the attitudes of those affected, where for instance, traveler Kristina Taylor acknowledged the pinch of the summer rush, "It’s just a lot of traffic, and with everybody coming in during the summer, there’s not enough parking," she added while others express support for the crackdown, according to FOX 35.
Passengers like Shirley Bush, visiting from Texas, endorse the benefits of using cell phone lots, as it helps them avoid the hustle during arrivals, "It’s better for us because if you’re meeting up with someone, now you can just leave out of all that confusion and go to the parking lot," she stated, as per FOX 35.
