Initially facing charges of criminal homicide, the couple now confront accusations including first-, second-and third-degree murder, alongside aggravated assault, kidnapping, and involuntary servitude, as reported by FOX 29.
Disturbing evidence from hundreds of files containing videos, images, and text messages illustrate a harrowing timeline of abuse, according to CBS News, detectives state these files show a systematic and brutal treatment of young Malinda, who was reportedly found weighing just 50 pounds at the time of her death, her body marked with bruises and deformities. "They communicated regularly on how they would terrorize Malinda," Assistant District Attorney Michael de Barrena-Sarobe said, depicting a situation where the normalcy of a child's life was replaced with the twisted regularity of maltreatment.
Despite the abuse allegations, as per NBC Philadelphia, investigators found no lapses in legal duty regarding abuse reporting from the schools Malinda attended, however, there's countering sentiment from Malinda's half-sisters, and their attorney Tom Bosworth signaled the potential for legal action, stating "They had knowledge," and pointing to obvious signs of distress in the young girl which should have raised concern, considering her living situation with a guardian previously convicted of child abuse.
