A Peoria man has confessed to murder after a fatal drunk driving incident claimed the life of a young mother and left her child injured. Adam Parker, 38, entered a guilty plea for second-degree murder and aggravated assault, stemming from a wrong-way collision along US 60 in Apache Junction, as announced by Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer. According to the County Attorney's Office, there was no plea deal in place when Parker pled directly to the court on Monday.
The incident occurred on January 20th, Elizabeth McAloon, age 28, was driving home after church with her seven-year-old daughter when Parker, driving a truck, entered the eastbound lanes of US 60 in the wrong direction colliding with McAloon's SUV which led to her tragic death and her daughter sustaining injuries. Numerous 911 calls that evening detailed Parker's reckless driving moments before the crash. Parker's blood alcohol content was reportedly over 0.23, far above the legal limit. He is due for sentencing on September 6th.
"While accountability is an important step in this case, our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims' family, and especially with the young child who has to grow up without her mother," Volkmer expressed his condolences, simultaneously acknowledging the life-altering repercussions of drunk driving. This case has highlighted the devastating impact of such decisions on innocent lives.
The charges against Parker carry severe implications, with second-degree murder classified as a Class 1 felony and aggravated assault as a Class 2 felony.
