Philadelphia residents in the 9th District experienced a surge of auto-related thefts early Sunday, with a suspect breaking into vehicles along Sansom Street. The Philadelphia Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in tracking down the individuals responsible for these crimes. According to the official police alert, between midnight and 9:45 a.m., three cars had their windows shattered on the 2200 block of Sansom Street, and two reports of stolen items followed these trespasses.
In the early morning quiet, which residents often take for granted, the thief operated with a brashness that undermined the sense of community security. Footage obtained from surveillance cameras nearby shows a figure methodically targeting the vehicles, their actions caught on film in hopes that someone might recognize them and lead to an arrest. As stated in the police report, two car owners reported missing items.
Philadelphia Police are encouraging anyone with information on the suspect to step forward, assuring anonymity for those who wish it. The supplied surveillance video is available online
Those affected or with information are urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department's Northwest Detectives Division.
