Philadelphia's search for a gunman has intensified, with authorities turning to the community for help after a daylight shooting in the city's 22nd District. According to the Philadelphia Police Department, on July 20, a man on a motorized scooter was targeted and shot multiple times at the intersection of 21st and Diamond Street, despite this broad daylight attack, the victim found the strength to get himself to a hospital where he was consequently listed in stable condition.
The Philadelphia Police Department and the Shooting Investigation Group have since released a video to the public, depicting the suspect involved in the shooting incident, they're requesting anyone with information to come forward, which may aid in apprehending the individual responsible for this senseless act of violence. The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion, seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneakers, and black sunglasses, a description that is alarmingly vague and could stand in for an unfortunately large swath of America's black youth, which in itself says something about the presumption of guilt laid at the feet of black men in this nation.
Security footage from the scene offers the clearest look at the suspect, and the Philadelphia Police are appealing to anyone who might recognize the individual to contact law enforcement. The video, available through the police blotter site, shows the suspect's actions moments before the shooting and provides critical visual cues that could lead to an identification and arrest.
The department is urging individuals with any relevant information to reach out, assuring that tips can be submitted anonymously. If you can assist in the identification of the suspect, please contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Central Detective Division at 215-686-3093/3094.
