A Philadelphia store clerk was fatally shot during what appears to have been a robbery gone violent in the Frankford neighborhood. The incident occurred early on Thursday morning, according to authorities. Police were summoned to the scene at a convenience store on Pratt Street, where they discovered the 34-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds. FOX 29 News reported that several shell casings were found scattered around the body of the clerk who lay behind the counter.
Chief Inspector Scott Small informed that the victim had been quickly taken to Temple University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead after officers attempted to fully save their life. Small detailed the crime scene to 6abc, saying, "We know at least five shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon since we found five spent shell casings on the floor." The discovery of these shell casings mere feet away from the victim's location and an open cash register with money scattered on the floor pointed to a robbery attempt.
Investigations by the Philadelphia Police are ongoing, as they are working to unravel the details of the clerk's tragic death. The police did not initially apprehend any suspects at the scene. However, they plan to review surveillance footage from both inside and outside the store to aid in the manhunt for the perpetrator.
