The city of Phoenix is bracing for an intense heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar well into the triple digits throughout the week. According to the National Weather Service, residents can anticipate a high of 115 degrees today, with light winds shifting from west to northwest in the afternoon. The scorching heat continues into the evening, offering little respite as temperatures are predicted to dip only to a low around 89 degrees tonight.
Dangerously hot temperatures will persist through much of this week. An Excessive Heat Warning remains in place for the AZ lower deserts & southeast CA through Thursday. Be mindful of the heat and try to limit your time outdoors and drink plenty of water. #azwx #cawx pic.twitter.com/kO5USmOj2G

Tuesday promises to closely mimic today's sweltering conditions, with the mercury set once again to peak near 114 degrees, as per the National Weather Service. The light east wind is set to gradually become west in the afternoon, possibly providing some slight but necessary circulation of the torrid air. As the week progresses, the relentless heat shows no sign of abating. Wednesday and Thursday are forecasted to bring highs mirror-image to Tuesday's, both topping out near 114 degrees underneath an unfaltering sunny sky. Each night echoes the last, offering temperatures that struggle to cool significantly, hovering around the 90-degree mark.
The clear skies are expected to persist into Friday, with Phoenix residents facing another furnace-like day at 114 degrees. Nightfall will drag temperatures down to the low nineties, with a partly cloudy sky providing scant obstruction to the relentless desert heat. The weekend forecast, accessed via the National Weather Service website, introduces a chance for reprieve with predictions indicating a 20 to 30 percent likelihood of showers and thunderstorms from Saturday into Sunday, and a slight decrease in day-time highs ranging from 111 to 107 degrees.
