In Pierce County, deputies have been credited with life-saving interventions in two separate incidents that occurred last weekend. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department blog, on Friday, June 28, at around 10:22 p.m., law enforcement responded to a reported stabbing at the University Glen Apartments. They found a juvenile suspect who had allegedly stabbed his father and was still in possession of the knife. After arresting the suspect, deputies provided medical attention to the victim, a move that was critical in tending to the severe injuries sustained.
The following night, a minor car collision escalated into a life-threatening situation when one driver, believed to be under the influence, fled the scene and subsequently dove into freezing water. Witnesses at the Local Boys store in Purdy tried to detain him post-collision, but, after a scuffle, the man undressed and made the impulsive decision to jump into the water. The Pierce County Marine Services Unit and the dive team initiated a rescue operation not to apprehend but to ensure the man's survival.
Eventually, deputies witnessed the individual clinging to a log in the chilly waters, prompting an immediate response. Working alongside Gig Harbor police officers, they managed to commandeer a nearby boat and executed a timely rescue. The man was transported to the hospital following the ordeal and now faces potential charges for hit and run from the prosecutor’s office, as mentioned on the department’s blog.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department and the Gig Harbor police department have both received accolades for their swift actions in these critical situations."Awesome job by all our deputies and the Gig Harbor police on these two rescues," as stated by the Sheriff's Department blog. Their prompt and decisive measures clearly demonstrate their dedication to public safety and their ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances.
