Pierce County is calling all young creators with something to show off. If you're between the ages of 12 and 24 and have a knack for dance, comedy, rap, poetry, music, or another show-stopping talent, here's your chance to shine. Pierce County Human Services' (PCHS) Birth to 25 Initiative and The Griot Party are teaming up to find the brightest stars in the community with a Youth Talent Search.

Hopeful participants can audition on July 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lincoln High School, situated at 701 S. 37th St., in Tacoma. It's not just a moment in the spotlight that's up for grabs, but selected talents will also score recording studio time, be featured in a music video, and perform at the Youth Talent Showcase, set for August 25 at Edison Square in Tacoma.

This search is not merely about the dazzle of the stage, it's anchored in a greater cause. It's a piece of a larger strategy by PCHS's Birth to 25 Initiative, which focuses on curbing youth violence through positive engagement and empowerment. By providing outlets for expression, they aim to redirect potential energy away from the streets and onto the stage.

The push for talent is supported by funds from the Puget Sound Taxpayer Accountability Account (PSTAA), which backs programs for children and youth who are low-income, experiencing homelessness, or are in foster care. Edison Square and the Eastside Community Center have shown their commitment to local talent, and youth optimism, by donating the venue and the recording studio time for these young performers' dreams to take flight.
