A West Virginia woman is facing misdemeanor charges after a gun was found in her backpack at a security checkpoint at Pittsburgh International Airport. The incident, which occurred on Sunday before 10:44 a.m., was promptly reported by Transportation Security Administration officers who detected the revolver during routine checks, according to a report by WPXI.
Law enforcement was quick to respond, with Allegheny County Police confirming the traveler's identity as 33-year-old Amber Brooks. Brooks, who did not have a valid concealed-carry permit, was subsequently charged for carrying a firearm without a license.
Carrying firearms into an airport security checkpoint is a serious offense and TSA can impose fines of up to $10,000. Passengers with prior offenses could face even steeper fines, up to $13,910, as detailed by TribLIVE. This arrest marks yet another firearm discovery by TSA at the Pittsburgh airport, joining at least 23 others discovered last month. This trend is dangerously close to matching the previous year's record of 44.
