To enhance road and pedestrian safety in Pittsburgh, Councilperson Erika Strassburger is set to introduce legislation for automated red light enforcement systems. The City of Pittsburgh announcement, scheduled for a press conference on Tuesday, July 30th, will feature city officials and community advocates discussing the potential impact and importance of the proposed systems.
The event, publicized in a recent bulletin, will take place at the City-County Building on Grant Street, where Mayor Ed Gainey and representatives from the city's Department of Mobility and Infrastructure and the Department of Public Safety will elaborate on how these systems could help reduce traffic violations and accidents. Katy Sawyer, a community member and advocate of the Vision Zero initiative which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries will also be present.
According to a bulletin from the City of Pittsburgh, Strassburger's legislation comes as part of a larger discussion about urban mobility and safety, as Pittsburgh continues to evolve its infrastructure in response to a growing population and the ever-present prioritization of pedestrian safety.
Residents of Pittsburgh and interested parties are encouraged to join the discourse at the upcoming conference or follow updates online. More details can be found in the city's official bulletin.
