Hey Pittsburgh, it’s time to slide into home plate and celebrate the spirit of youth sportsmanship at the upcoming 2024 Mayor's Cup. PNC Park is set to buzz with excitement as the CitiSports/Pirates Nike RBI Baseball and Softball Championship games approach, inviting everyone for a showcase of talent and community at no cost to spectators. Mayor Ed Gainey spoke on the importance of team sports stating, "Team sports are just one way to help youth become community contributors.  Pittsburgh kids are learning teamwork, commitment and gaining skills for handling adaptation and challenges." As reported by the City of Pittsburgh, the emphasis is on fostering excellence both on and off the field.

The event, a testament to the power of collaboration, owes its vitality to the CitiParks director, Kathryn Vargas, who didn’t miss a beat expressing gratitude towards their partners. “It has been a great season for CitiSports Baseball and Softball!  Much thanks to our Pirates-Nike RBI and Pirates Charities partners and their continued commitment and generosity to help Pittsburgh youth flourish through baseball and softball, in what is now the largest program with an MLB Team,” Vargas stated, as per the city's announcement.

Packed with back-to-back games, the Mayor’s Cup Championship kicks off bright and early on July 15, giving fans a chance to catch the Bronco Squirrel Hill face-off against Westwood at 9 AM, followed by a series of games throughout the day, ending with the 18U Fastpitch Softball game at 4 PM. A few weeks later, on August 9, the gates will reopen for the PONY AA, COLT, and SUPER COLT teams to determine their champions. For the complete rundown, be sure to check out the schedules posted on their website.

Concerns over potential game cancellations due to foul weather have been addressed with proactive contingency planning. Any games washed out will be promptly rescheduled, date and location to be determined, so keep your rally caps ready and an eye on the skies. Transportation and parking couldn't be easier — free admission paired with complimentary parking in Red Lot 5. Make your way down, cheer on the youngsters, and perhaps, just perhaps, witness the blossoming of Pittsburgh's next baseball or softball prodigy.
