Anthrocon's chairman, Sam Conway, echoed this sentiment during the conference affirming the bond between the event and the city with the words, "This is our home." Pittsburgh anticipates record-breaking attendance with over 15,000 attendees, including a significant international presence, with 1,000 visitors hailing from outside the United States, the potential influx of visitor spending is projected to reach upwards of $17 million.
Meanwhile, the selection of Gray Paws Sanctuary as this year's charity brings attention to the plight of elderly canines, providing them with a haven for the twilight of their lives. Darla Poole Brescia, co-founder of Gray Paws, shared her enthusiasm, saying, "This is amazing to be selected as the charity for 2024," as cited TribLIVE. highlighting the organization's decade-long service to the region's aging dogs, offering foster care, and financing medical treatments to ease their remaining years.
