
A disturbing incident occurred during a youth AAU basketball game in Alameda between Payton's Place and Tumakbo United. A player from Payton's Place stomped on the head of Seth Guingab from the opposing team. According to KTVU, the event unfolded during Sunday night's game at the College of Alameda amidst a struggle for the ball.
After the incident, which currently is under police investigation as the involved children are 13 years old, Payton's Place issued a statement on Instagram expressing regrets about the occurrence, saying it did not reflect their values and promising to address the violence displayed. "The behavior that was exhibited by our player is not acceptable and is being taken seriously", ABC7News detailed, confirming that the player is no longer with the team and is seeking resources to prevent future incidents.
The injured player, Seth Guingab, now deals with a concussion as a result of the assault, as his parents, Eva and Roderick Guingab, relayed as per ABC7News. Eva Guingab described the aftermath, stating, "You could clearly see the size of his shoe on his face. My son suffered a concussion for the first time he played basketball". The family has since initiated a report with the Alameda Police.
Meanwhile, the Payton's Place family extended their apologies and are collaborating with Tumakbo United to resolve the situation amicably. According to Payton's Place, which operates several locations in the Bay Area and is known for competing in prestigious tournaments, the team assists the involved player in controlling his emotions and recognizing the behavior's inappropriate nature, as cited by KTVU.
