As the city prepares for the annual July 4th parade and fireworks, residents, and visitors should be prepared for substantial parking and traffic changes in the Plymouth area. According to the Plymouth Police Department's Facebook page, specific road closures and no parking zones have been announced to ensure safety and smooth operations for the festivities. Taylor Avenue will be off-limits to all but White Horse Beach residents starting at 6:00 PM on July 3, for a duration deemed necessary by the authorities.
Travel restrictions do not end there. If you're used to cruising through the Priscilla Beach area, take note that all side streets will be closed to non-resident traffic after 6:00 PM. And finding a parking spot might just get trickier; a slew of roads including Manomet Point Road and Old Beach Road will be tagged with no parking signs throughout July 3rd. The restrictions extend to side streets like Brian’s Way and Vine Brook Road, among others, which are also listed in the advisory from the Plymouth Police Department.
For those counting on the availability of Manomet Elementary School for parking purposes, it's time to look elsewhere as the school will be closed to the public all day. And just when you thought you had that perfect spot for viewing the fireworks, there will be no parking throughout downtown from the stroke of midnight on July 4th. Should your car be found in violation of the restrictions, it's not just a ticket you'll face—towing operations are set to begin at the crack of dawn at 6 AM.
The closures continue with Water Street bracing itself for a traffic halt between Union and Brewster Streets starting at 6:00 AM on the Fourth, while parking becomes a mirage on streets like Carver Street and Summer Street from 5 AM until the grand fireworks display concludes around 9:30 PM. To accommodate the celebrations, the east side of Sandwich Street will also be pulling a disappearing act for parking all day, as reported by the Plymouth Police Department. As one final reminder for those plotting their July 4th strategy, Morton Park Road and Thoreau Road are also bowing out of the parking game for the entire day.
