President Joe Biden has turned his gaze to local communities in the ongoing effort against climate change, announcing a new series of Climate Pollution Reduction Grants. The grants, designed to mitigate the impacts of climate change and transition the nation toward a cleaner future, are aimed at creating jobs and addressing environmental justice. According to a statement from the White House, these grants will work across 30 states, funding projects such as reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and flood-proofing infrastructure.
In his statement, President Biden connects the fight against climate change to economic prosperity. "When I think of climate change, I think about jobs – good-paying, union jobs that put Americans to work," he said, underscoring the dual benefit of tackling environmental issues while bolstering the job market.
The grants, curbing greenhouse gas emissions in Pennsylvania and making flood-proofing infrastructure in North Carolina, are just two examples of the local initiatives being funded. These measures, spanning various states, reflect the Administration's commitment mentioned by Biden to use "every tool in our toolbox" to lower energy costs for families, reduce pollution, and advance environmental justice, as per The White House.
