
Yesterday, July 2, was proclaimed Kathy Hedin Day in Ramsey County, in honor of Deputy County Manager Kathy Hedin's more than two decades of service to the community. According to Ramsey County, Hedin climbed the ranks from an Environmental Health Technician to the first Black person to become Public Health Director in the state, and onwards to being the Deputy County Manager of their most substantial service team, Health and Wellness.
Hedin's dedication to public service included leadership in multiple significant initiatives varying from climate change response, and justice system reforms, to the technological enhancement of county operations, according to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners' statement during her commendation Kathy was instrumental in several key initiatives - including Putting Wellbeing and Community at the Center of Justice System Transformation, and the Advancing Racial and Health Equity and Shared Community Power initiative that aimed to reinvent the relationship between the justice system and the communities it serves, and she was a lead figure in the county’s fight against the Covid-19 outbreak, as per Ramsey County.
In lauding Hedin's impact, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners expressed their gratitude, noting, "Kathy has been a key leader in strategic initiatives" that have propelled county services forward and fortified the wellbeing of its citizens the Board's proclamation stated, "The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners thanks Kathy Hedin on behalf of all constituents for her innovative leadership, service and dedication to truly foster a county of excellence where all are valued and can thrive," as detailed by Ramsey County.
