Residents of Rio Vista experienced a close call this 4th of July holiday when unauthorized fireworks launched a fire on Hillside Terrace. Last Friday, Rio Vista Police Department officers were drawn to the area by fireworks lighting up the sky. According to the Rio Vista Police Department, Officers Vega and Tramble were quick to investigate the scene behind a residence on Hillside Terrace, where they found a vegetation fire had ignited near a Mormon church.
The officers soon discovered more than just the fireworks remains — they were alerted promptly to a second blaze behind the Ford dealership, threatening nearby homes. The quick thinking of the officers led to the swift evacuation of three individuals from an endangered residence. Community members played a crucial role in the response, aiding their neighbors' evacuation efforts by alerting them to the imminent danger.
Thanks to the efforts of the Rio Vista Fire Department and cooperating agencies, the fire was brought under control before any homes were severely damaged. However, the incident left two fences charred and had flames dangerously close, stopping 10 feet short of one of the houses. Authorities are still searching for the individuals responsible for setting off the illegal fireworks that caused the fires. They urge anyone with information to contact Officers Vega or Tramble at 707-374-2300.
