A deputy-involved shooting took place on the morning of July 19 in Jurupa Valley, leading to the death of an armed male suspect. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported that deputies were called to assist county park rangers with a cleanup effort in the Santa Ana River bottom when they encountered the suspect wielding a machete and a large metal pipe.
Authorities said the events unfolded around 7:28 a.m. near 34th Street and Crestmore Road. The man, whose identity has not been released, refused to follow commands to drop his weapons and remained aggressive, according to a statement released on the Riverside Sheriff's official website. After attempts with a less lethal device failed to subdue him, a deputy shot the suspect.
The individual received medical attention at the scene before being transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The incident, which did not result in injuries to any deputies or park rangers, is now under investigation by the Riverside County District Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Force Investigations Detail.
Following department policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave. Details regarding the ongoing investigation remain scant, as officials have withheld the names of both the deceased and the deputy involved. For those looking for more information or willing to provide details about the incident, investigators Mario Moreno and Martin Alfaro can be contacted at 951-955-2700, the Sheriff's Department encouraged.
