The Rockwall County Detention Center is set to improve inmate health and safety with the integration of a new biometric monitoring system called OverWatch™, provided by 4Sight Labs. Announced recently, the technology marks a step forward in the facility's approach to managing inmate care, with an emphasis on those struggling with behavioral health and substance use disorders, as well as an aging population with chronic health issues.
OverWatch™ offers real-time health monitoring through wireless wearable sensors that keep track of various biometric data, this includes heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, and movement. The continuous stream of data is designed to enable prompt intervention by staff when an inmate's health appears to be at risk. Captain Alexander Gray of the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the system's potential, "With the advancements provided by OverWatch™, we are making a substantial stride in safeguarding the health and safety of our inmates," according to a post on the Rockwall County's official website.
With OverWatch™, the detention center aims to address operational challenges that have historically affected correctional facilities, including the provision of timely medical care and the management of inmate behavior. The system's ability to alert staff to health deterioration or the need for medical intervention can be essential in preventing fatalities and improving the overall welfare of those in custody.
