Last night, Rohnert Park Police and Fire reported a routine traffic stop that decidedly became anything but ordinary. A Public Safety Officer pulled over a vehicle for a moving violation, quickly escalating when the driver showed signs of being under the influence. According to the City of Rohnert Park Police & Fire, Trevor Sundstrom, the driver, was observed with drug paraphernalia in clear view after a second officer arrived on the scene.
The situation further deteriorated when officers conducted a probable cause search of Sundstrom's vehicle and found 28g of suspected fentanyl, 4g of suspected methamphetamine, and additional drug paraphernalia. After these findings, Sundstrom performed poorly on Field Sobriety Tests, which led to his arrest on multiple drug-related charges, including possession of narcotics, possession of controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about substance influence behind the wheel. The Rohnert Park Police & Fire Department took to social media to advocate for collective vigilance, urging the populace to "report drivers appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol to 911 immediately." In the aftermath of the traffic stop and subsequent arrest, Sundstrom was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
