A shooting incident on Wednesday evening in Saginaw Township resulted in the death of one individual and left two others injured. As reported by ABC12, the Saginaw Township Police Department and other agencies responded to a call around 10 p.m. on Mackinaw Road, an area that was subsequently cordoned off until 7 a.m. the following morning for investigation purposes.
Upon arrival, police discovered a vehicle with its doors ajar and two individuals inside; the driver, 24-year-old Dennis Christopher Mayes Jr., was found deceased with a fatal gunshot wound, while a second victim, a 15-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound to the midsection and has since undergone surgery—he is expected to recover, according to information from upnorthlive. A third individual present during the shooting fled the scene before police could apprehend him but was later found and taken into custody, though details about their involvement have not been divulged.
Further investigation led authorities to another 15-year-old male near the crime scene, who has now been charged with open murder and is being held at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center, as confirmed by Saginaw Township Police Chief Scott A. Malace in a statement obtained by WNEM. Chief Malace also noted that the parties involved were acquainted with one another, suggesting that the incident was not a random act of violence.
While the investigation into the motivation and specifics of the encounter is still underway, the Saginaw Township Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and contact them.
