San Antonio, meet your newest Spur legend, Chris Paul, whose arrival is now set in stone, or more accurately, on a wall. Local street artist Colton Valentine, no stranger to the breath of murals across the city, captures the essence of San Antonio’s multicultural vibrancy and sports fandom in his latest masterpiece. Paul, the veteran guard and now a member of the Spurs family, is the centerpiece of this new mural, embracing the Fiesta colors that ribbon through the team's culture. The mural stands regally at 802 San Pedro, and according to KENS 5, has yet to bear Paul's jersey number, a nod to its freshness and the anticipation hanging in the air.

It’s more than just art, it’s a statement of community and anticipation for what Paul will bring to the table after a storied 19-year career with stops at various franchises including Golden State, Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Houston, LA Clippers, and New Orleans. Valentine was "really excited" to honor a player he described as an "intellectual player," and who he feels brings "knowledge for the youth." This, the deeply rooted respect for the game and its players, is fueling Valentine's drive as he told FOX San Antonio, "It's cool to be an artist and it's cool to make money doing what you love, but the thing that is the most fulfilling is inspiring the youth. I've had parents come up to me explaining how their kids see a mural and they go home and draw. That's enough for me."

Meanwhile, the summer is blazing hot not only in temperature but also on the courts of Las Vegas where the Summer Spurs are igniting the NBA Summer League with an undefeated streak. The team recently clinched a win against the Pelicans, with Riley Minix lighting up the scoreboard and Donovan Williams, Jamaree Bouyea, Sidy Cissoko, and Harrison Ingram making substantial contributions. However, rookie Stephon Castle sat out and will miss the remainder of the Summer League games. This tease of talent is what the city hopes Paul will deepen with his veteran savvy and leadership when the regular season kicks in.
